Karen Sue Downs (Ruckman)

Karen Sue Downs, 69, Of Independence, MO passed away January 23, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held 2pm, January 30, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Karen was born on January 8, 1947 in Warren, Ohio to Harold and Ruth (Bumgardner) Ruckman. It was in Ohio that she met the love of her life, and husband of 51 years, David Downs. In 1979 Karen, along with her husband and family relocated in Independence. Karen was born with a true servant’s heart, always placing others before herself. She devoted her life to her family, and helping others. Karen will truly be missed as she was the heart of the family. She enjoyed weekly gatherings at her house for dinner, and any special occasions. Survivors include; husband David Downs; daughter Dawn Fite (Michael); sons Darren Downs, Daniel Downs, and David Downs (Leanne); grandchildren: Curtis Slinker(Tiffany), Amanda Gardner (Tony), Dean Downs, David Downs, Haley Downs, Susan Downs, and Samantha Downs; great grandchildren; Alizay Gardner, Alexis Gardner, Kloey Slinker, and Autumn Slinker; brother Samuel Ruckman; sister Cheryl Ursu; extended family and a host of friends. Karen is preceded in death by her parents, son Dean Downs in 1995, brothers Joseph Ruckman, Dan Ruckman, and Jeff Ruckman, and sister Marianne Armstrong.
