Richard Dreher

February 9, 1926 — September 17, 2014

Richard B. Dreher, 88, of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27th at Carson-Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Richard with a memorial contribution to Great Plains SPCA.
Richard was born February 9, 1926 in Graham, MO to James and Cleoria Dreher. He was a member of Teamsters, and drove for Allied Van Lines for 30 years. He was a hard worker and good provider for his family. He was also a member and President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #385 of Independence for over 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World Ward II. Richard was a simple man who was known for his willingness to help others whenever needed. He was a devoted baseball and football fan. He enjoyed gathering with friends and family. Richard had many dogs during his life and each one held a special place in his heart. His most recent dog, Soldier, was a 4 year old chocolate lab that gave him so much happiness and love since the passing of Richard’s wife. Soldier filled a void in his master’s life and provided him unconditional love and devotion.
Richard leaves behind his son, Richard L. Dreher (Shari); grandson, Richard N. Dreher (Lana); great grandchildren, Joshua and Tabitha; brother, Donald Dreher; and nephew, J.D. Dreher. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 46 years, Mary J. Dreher; and second wife, Margaret F. Dreher who passed away November of 2012.
