Leonard E. Dutton, Sr. 81, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at the Medical Center of Independence. Services will be 3 pm Saturday, March 13th at George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home; with interment in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation, with Masonic Rites, will be Friday from 7 to 8:30 pm at the funeral home. Leonard was born March 1, 1923 in Missouri City, MO to William and Margie Hubbs Dutton. He served in the US Army in the Pacific during WW II, and was awarded the Purple Heart for serious wounds in battle. Leonard worked for Missouri Gas Energy for 37 years until his retirement. Leonard was a member of the Independence McDonald Masonic Lodge #324. Five brothers, two sisters, and a daughter, Doris, preceded him in death. Leonard is survived by his wife Etta Mae Dutton; son, Leonard E. Dutton, Jr. and wife Joyce of Independence, MO; daughter, Nadine Wright and husband Chuck of Warsaw, MO; stepsons, James Egerton of Sugar Creek, MO, William Cook and wife Sherry of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Dawn Higbe and husband Ed, Leslie Wright and wife Alisha, Angie Dutton, Chad Dutton, and Patricia Smith; step grandchildren, Chris Egerton, Christine Brackenbury and husband Aaron, Mark Cook and wife Amy, Laura Hoffmann and husband Jason; great grandchildren, Cameron, Tanner, Samantha, Luke, Zech, Logan, and Allison; niece, Peggy Clayton; many other nieces and nephews.
