Fire Equipment Operator Harold E. “Gene” Eddins passed away following an off-duty motor vehicle accident on Friday, October 14, 2022.
A visitation will be held from 6-8:00pm on Thursday, October 20th with a funeral service at 1:00pm on Friday, October 21st, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave.; Independence, MO 64055. Interment with honors will immediately follow at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence.
Gene was born on February 23, 1970, to Harold E. Sr. and Barbara (Pike) Eddins in Wyandotte County, KS. He graduated from Liberty High School and went on to attend Penn Valley Community College. On October 16, 1999, he married Stephanie Walker, and together, they made a house a home, raising two daughters in Liberty.
FEO Eddins was hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Independence in October of 2010. In his 12 years with the department, he also served as a Fire Inspector and was promoted to Fire Equipment Operator in 2020. His career included a commitment to public safety that spanned more than 30 years.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie; his adored daughters, Madison Eddins and Taylor Eddins; mother and stepfather, Barbara and Jim Cowan; sister, Lorrie Eddins; step-brother, Terry (Marissa) Cowan and their children, Madeline, Makenna, Harper and Jace; aunt, Peggy Pike; uncle, Ron (Carol) Eddins; father and mother-in-law, Dean and Judy Walker; brother-in-law, Chris (Diane) Walker and their children, Rachel and Kyle.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, and his father, Harold E. Eddins, Sr.
