Vine S. Edward, 76 of Independence, MO entered peacefully into the Lord�s hands on Friday August 20, 2004 while surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, August 26th at the LDS Stake Center. Visitation will be 6-9:00 pm Wednesday, August 25th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Vine was born April 18, 1928 in Matautu-uta, Upolu, Samoa. He was a resident of Independence since 1970. As one of the 1st Samoan families in the community, he served as President for the Samoan Organization from 1980-1981 and pioneered in organizing services for the Samoan community in addition to serving on many committees for the City of Independence. He was the 1st Samoan to serve on the Board of Health. Mr. Edward was a highly decorated Veteran of the U.S. Army and recipient of the Silver Star. His military career included active duty in Korea and two tours in Vietnam, retiring as Sgt. 1st Class. Vine was a member of the Missouri post 71 American Legion. Following his military career, he worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal service retiring in 1984. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints holding many callings. Most recently he and his wife taught Sunday school to 4 year-old sunbeams. His volunteer work included 6 Temple Missions in Samoa, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Chicago, Colorado and Atlanta. Vine is survived by his wife and eternal partner of 52 years, Taeulavao Falailiva Tapuasa Le�i; children Vine Jr. and Sue Edward of Chicago, IL, Mormon and April Edward of Chicago, IL, Joann and William Sands of Independence, MO, Faith and David Bolen of Aurora, CO, Juliett and Teleso Sr. Lavea of Oceanside, CA; grandchildren Vine III and Jessica Edward, Alexandra (Edward) Barrera, Mariel and Audrey Sands, Brock, Blake and Bo Bolen, Jason, Tyler and Teleso Jr. Levea. He was preceded in death by his son Talailevasamoa (Tui) Saupo Edward and parents Eteuati Toa and Taua Tago. Vine was a kind and generous example to all his family and friends. His tireless, unceasing service was extended to all mankind. Daddy/Grandpa we will miss you. You will forever be in our hearts�until we meet again.
