Lewis Dwayne “L.D.” Edwards, 73, Independence, MO passes away Aug. 25, 2018. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Funeral services will be 10 am, Friday at New Hope Baptist Church, 18020 Hwy. HH, Lebanon, MO followed by interment at New Hope Cemetery; arrangements by Shadel’s Colonial Funeral Home, Lebanon, MO.
L.D. was born May 19, 1945, the second son of Don S. and S. LaVerne (Matthews) Edwards in Lebanon, MO. He spent most of his high school years at Wheatland High School before graduating from Climax Springs, High School. He married Bonny June Lewis on Dec. 20, 1969. He worked at the GM Fairfax Plant for thirty-eight years. During his career he served as Union Steward, Vice President, President and Director of the Job Bank for U.A.W. Local #31 before his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He was a very good golfer and won many trophies over the years. He spent many hours volunteering for the March of Dimes where he helped raise thousands of dollars to help children.
L.D. was preceded in death by his wife Bonny June Edwards. He is survived by brothers Jim Edwards, Avery, MO; Bob Edwards, Springfield, MO; niece Ronda (Edwards) Hornick, Excelsior Springs, MO; nephews J.D. Edwards II, Excelsior, Springs, MO; David Edwards, Springfield, MO; great-niece Sarah Edwards, Grandview, MO; great-nephew Jimmie D. Edwards III, Liberty, MO and a host of friends.
