Oleta Jean (Crain) Eklof, 87, passed away on February 9, 2017.
A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m., with funeral at 11:00 a.m., both Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. A graveside service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Flemington Cemetery, Flemington, MO.
Oleta was born on July 24, 1929, in Graydon Springs, MO, to Samuel Henry Crain and Revia Edell (Smith) Crain. She graduated from Humansville High School in 1946 and moved to the Independence area in her early twenties. She married Paul Eklof on April 24, 1948, and to this union were born 3 daughters. They were members of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years, and Oleta was involved with special education Sunday School as well as serving meals for Hospitality and Bereavement events. She was an expert seamstress and quilter, and had numerous sewing machines that enabled her to perfect her hobby. She was incredibly humble, selfless, and considerate of others, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Wilma Davis, Henrietta Fender, Auston Crain, Howard Crain, and Norma Green.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul; daughters Deborah Eklof, Donna Hatchette (husband, Cliff), and Deanna Lyday (husband, Earle); grandchildren, Erica Lam, Jessica Stracener, Veronica Batton, Rachel Lyday, and Joshua Lyday; and great-grandchildren, Hanna Stracener, Emerson Stracener, Anderson Lam, Evelyn Oleta Lam, and Francis Batton.
