Ohmer Kenneth Elliott, age 92, passed away on February 18, 2015. He was born in Clinton, Missouri on November 18, 1922 to Samuel Jesse Elliott and Mary Lucille Salley Elliott. He married Geraldine Kalberloh in Kansas City, Missouri on October 3, 1947. In 1970, their son, John Kevin Elliott joined their family. Kenneth was inducted into the United States Army on November 19, 1943. He served in the Asiatic Theater in the Pacific with the 738th Engineer Base Depot Company as a general carpenter. He was wounded on January 15, 1946 and spent 4 months at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado and was released with an honorable discharge on April 24, 1946. During his years in the Army, Kenneth received the Meritorious Unit Insignia, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war he resumed his trade as a carpenter and cabinetmaker, working for various companies, individuals and some notable Kansas City families installing kitchens and doing remodeling. Anyone who knew Kenneth knew he was not just a carpenter; he was an artist and true craftsman who took pride in his work and worked until he saw perfection in everything he did. In the 1970’s he and Jerry opened Kenwood Kitchens in Kansas City, Missouri and installed kitchens in and around the Kansas City area until they closed the business in 1982. Kenneth was a long time member of the Carpenter’s Local Union #61 and the Cabinetmakers Local Union #1635. He retired when he was 87. Kenneth was a member of the Raytown Memorial VFW Post 4242, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Posts 71 and 21. Kenneth professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church where he worked with the Scouts for a number of years until Kevin obtained the Eagle Scouting Award. Kenneth leaves Jerry, his beloved wife of 67 years and his son, Kevin. He is also survived by his sister Mary Evelyn Mahan of Clinton, Missouri, his sister-in-law, Norma Davis of Raytown, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Kenneth was a loving husband and father, loved his extended family, would help anyone who needed a hand, and was a true patriot who loved the United States. Visitation will be held at the Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 1:00 PM, with the funeral to follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Memory Gardens in Independence, Missouri. The family requests no flowers but would appreciate contributions to the Disabled American Veterans or the VFW.
