David Michale Elrod, 69, artist, of Kansas City, MO was called home on Sunday, June 11, 2017. David was born July 24, 1947 to Eugene and Marie (Gardner) Elrod in St. Louis, MO.
David received his BFA from Graceland University and received his Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin. He was an accomplished artist in Madison, WI before moving to Kansas City. He received an Art in the Woods Award in 1981, and taught at the KC Art Institute, Kansas City, MO public schools and Scuola Vita Nuova charter school. David taught art to Kindergarten through 8th grade. He owned and operated Native American Arts & Crafts Holiday Store in Westport. David’s art can be viewed at the Community of Christ Temple in Independence, MO and a stained glass piece can be seen in one of the Community of Christ churches in Independence.
David is survived by his loving husband of 38 years, Joseph Flores, of the home; his brothers, Bob and his wife Sylvia of Huntley, IL and Gary and his wife Rita of Janesville, WI; as well as, many beloved nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lois, and his brothers, Jimmy and Franklin. The family of Joseph Flores would like to thank the nursing staff at KU Medical Center, Dan Grippo, Michael Flores, Mary Flores and the many others that touched his life and took such great care of David.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Norton Heights Community of Christ, 436 Norton Ave., Kansas City, MO 64124.
