Velma R. Engle

Velma R. Engle, 84, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, September 27, 2004 at the Medical Center of Independence. Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 2nd at Beacon Heights Congregation of the Community of Christ Church, with a reception immediately following. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm Friday, October 1st at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Private burial. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Beacon Heights Student Scholarship Fund. Velma was born April 7, 1920 in Los Angeles, CA to Jared and Alta (Van Valkenburg) Stuart. Mrs. Engle taught music for 13 years in California before retiring in 1972. Music was her life where she enjoyed playing the piano, organ and cello, directing church choirs and participating in the Messiah. In service to God, she shared her love of music and inspired her family and others to develop their own musical talents. Mrs. Engle is survived by her husband of 61 years, Boyd Engle of the home; daughters Sharon Francis of Independence, MO, Janet Garner and husband Michael of Yorba Linda, CA; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law J.C. and Eleaner Stuart of Independence, MO.
