Richard Samuel “Dick” Epperson, 92, of Independence, MO, passed away, Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Golden Living Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Donations may be made in his name to the Ascera Care Hospice or to City Union Mission. Dick was born December 14, 1921 in Chillicothe, MO to Richard Gordon and Grace Esther (Couch) Epperson. He had worked as a machine operator for PayWay and later Central Soya from 1971 until he retired in 1986. He was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and was a deacon. He was also a member of Grain Miller’s Union. He proudly served in the US Army during World II. Dick loved to work outdoors and was always busy, working with his hands: painting, wood working, building and puttering around his workbench. He is survived by; his loving wife of 68 years, Lorene of the home; his children Wes Epperson (Linny), Dennis Epperson (Diane) and Paula Jackson (Greg); sisters, Rosie Russell (Harvey) and Rita Dunn; a brother, John Knabe (Frances); grandchildren, Amy Porter (Gerald), Erin Epperson (Jamie Clack), Mark Epperson (Shellie), Rick Epperson, Steve Epperson, Lindsey Engemann (Ryan), Mitchell Jackson and Mary Jackson; great grandchildren, Anna Porter, Jake Porter, Molly Porter, Drew Porter, Zac Porter, Kameron Clack, Ava Epperson, Sam Epperson, Luke Epperson, Jillian Epperson, Jordan Davis, Grace Engemann and Jackson Engemann. He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Knabe and sisters, Evelyn Epperson, Phyllis Icaza, Joyce Provance and Mary Carol Tombs.
