Arlo G. Essex, 89, of Independence, Mo passed away, Friday, January 24, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Independence, MO. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Floral Hills East Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the 39st Street Church of Christ 15331 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Donations may be made in his name to the Golden Living Center Activity Department 17451 E. Medical Center Parkway, Independence, MO 64057. Arlo was born August 30, 1924 in Deer, Arkansas to Charles A. and Beulah M. (Faught) Essex. He was a loving father and husband. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was self employed by Arlo G. Essex Inc. He was a member of the 39th Street Church of Christ since being baptized into Christ in 1971. He was privileged to serve as a deacon and then elder for several years. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leona after 56 years of marriage. Survivors include; his daughter, Linda Essex of Independence, MO; his son, John M. Essex and his wife Glenys of Independence, MO; 2 sisters, Alice (George) Crosby of Peculiar, MO and Ruth Marie (Don) Essex of Springfield, MO; a granddaughter, Sara and husband J. Essex of Independence, MO; a great granddaughter, Kayleigh C. Belle Essex and several nieces and nephews.
