George Everley Jr., age 83, passed away Dec. 31, 2017. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church on Friday, January 5. Immediately following the visitation will be the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations were made to the Sister Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18th St., Kansas City, KS 66102-4291.
To know George was to know he was a storyteller beyond measure. He loved to talk with people, visit with them, and tell tales. He was a generous and giving soul. He would offer to help anyone in need. He spent many hours helping family members, volunteering at his children’s schools, and at his church. He earned the rank of 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus organization.
George was the son of George and Dora Everley. He grew up in northeast Kansas City where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Arens. They were married for 64 years. He owned his own remodeling company for many years. He spent his final working years at James B. Nutter in the property management division.
George was preceded in death by son Michael, grandson Rodney, brothers Gary and Harry, sister Dora Mae, brother-in-law Ken Arens, and sister-in-law Carol Chapin.
He is survived by wife Marilyn, son Patrick Everley and wife Mary, daughter Cynthia Swanson, daughter Laura Crowder and husband Curtis, daughter-in-law Darlene Everley, sister Shirley Wood and husband Milton, and brother Charlie Everley and wife Sue. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Eric and wife Becky and their children Lilian and Helena, Michelle, Rhonda and husband Don and their son Doug, Ian, David, Joe and wife Carly, Jessica and husband Randy and Jamie. He also leaves brothers and sisters-in-law: Ron and MaryKay Arens, Jeannine Arens, Harold and Chris Arens, Kathy Arens and Leanne Tomjack, as well as many nieces and nephews.
