JoAnne Felter, 48, of Independence, MO passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2004 at her home. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel with the burial at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The visitation will precede the service from 2-3:00 p.m. in the chapel. JoAnne was born in Topeka, KS on June 7, 1956. She moved with her parents to Independence, MO when she was one year old. She attended Ott Elementary, Independence Junior High and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1974. She went to Maple Woods Community College for two years and received medical records training there, then worked three years at KU Medical Center. After that she attended Longview Community College for two years and was certified as a veterinarian�s assistant. JoAnne was an avid reader and owned many books. She also enjoyed movies and music. She had a vast collection of videos, cassettes and cd�s. JoAnne loved children and contributed to Child Reach on a regular basis. She was fond of animals and was a Friend of the Zoo. She took her nieces and nephew to the zoo often. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Independence, MO. JoAnne fought a valiant fight with ovarian cancer for two and a half years. She did this with the help of her surgeon Dr. Julia Chapman, her oncologist Dr. Christopher Sirridge, and their staffs. JoAnne was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. She is survived by her mother, Shirley Felter of the home; two sisters and their families, Gloria Felter and husband Lowell Crow, children Diana and Simon Crow of Oak Ridge, TN, and Beverly Parrish and husband Michael, with children, Brian, Hannah and Lucy Parrish of Independence, MO; many aunts, uncles and cousins near and far.
