Cecilia “Babe” Ferwalt, 95, Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in the care of family in Edwards, MO.
Cecilia was born January 16, 1918 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of William M. and Mary Ellen (Klein) Ferwalt. She attended St. Frances Seraph Catholic School. She retired after 30 years with General Mills. Cecilia attended St. Ann’s Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Ann’s Alter Society. She was a member of the American Federation of Grain Millers and had coached softball and volleyball teams in Independence and was an avid sports fan, including Chiefs and Royals. Cecilia enjoyed gardening and yard work with her John Deere tractor and was known for donating food to elders in her church. She loved raising her numerous pomeranians.
Survivors include her nieces, Dorothy DiiBon, Mary Ann Williams, Donna Ferwalt and Patty Lytle and husband Bill; nephews, William Ferwalt and wife Betty, Robert Ferwalt and wife Wanda, Scotty Ferwalt, Joseph Ferwalt and wife Connie, and John Ferwalt, Jr., and wife Joyce; and additional great nieces, great nephews and family. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Peluso, Nell Wyman, and Clara Ferwalt; brothers, Henry and John Ferwalt; and her parents.
A rosary will be said at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church; 10109 E. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64053 with a visitation following. A mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Benton County Hospice.
