Rita Fessler, 90, formerly of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Columbia, MO. Rosary will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4th at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3726 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. and a luncheon visitation will be held from 11:30 – 1:00 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.
Rita was born Feb. 5, 1922 in Edina, MO, the twin daughter of Mary and Joseph Knapp. Besides her twin, she shared her childhood with seven other siblings. She taught school for one year in Kirksville, MO before moving with her twin sister to Kansas City to work at Remington Arms. Rita married Everett Fessler on April 12, 1947 and took up residence in Independence, MO. Most of her working years were spent as a clerk in the Independence Circuit Court, retiring in 1982. In retirement, Rita and Everett spent their spring and summer months in Park Rapids, MN. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved to quilt and play cards. Her greatest happiness was being with her family.
Rita is survived by son, John Fessler (Pam) of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughters, Kris Walker (Don) of Columbia, MO; Lynn Henry of Clinton, MO; and Anna Dean of Blue Springs, MO; daughter-in-law, Terri Fessler of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Rosemary Thomas of Salisbury, MO; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; son, Denis, and siblings.
