Donna Faye Fields (Laursen)

Donna Faye Fields, 85, died April 30, 2022, at her Independence, Missouri home, with her family by her side.
Donna was born May 23, 1936, in Kansas City, MO to Jess and Ruth Laursen.

Donna met Bill Fields at William Chrisman High School and wed August 2, 1958. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends. They were blessed with two boys: Mark and Kevin.

Donna’s early career included employment at Kansas City Title Company and working for family friend Ike Lewis. But the Genealogy Library is where she found her stride; continuing to work for over twenty years.
She was an active member of Independence First United Methodist Church. She joyfully performed with their handbell choir for many years and joined her sister Marian to assist with the sacrament of Holy Communion. She also volunteered her time and energy with her sons’ Boy Scout troop, supporting both boys from Cub Scouts to Eagle Scouts. She was extremely proud of her boys!

She enjoyed traveling, bowling, her flower garden, many pets, and collecting teapots and Precious Moments figurines. She created many crochet and cross stitch projects still enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. It was a well known fact that Donna wasn’t gifted in the kitchen; however, she looked forward to Sunday dinners with family at area restaurants.

Donna is survived by her husband of 63 years, her children, Mark (Collett) Fields, Kevin (Jill) Fields; four grandchildren; sister Marian and sister-in-law Wanda; nieces Patricia, Marsha, and Jana; and many friends who find comfort knowing that she is finally home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Ruth, and her sister Alice Taylor.

Donna’s family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the hospice nurses at VNA Home Health and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Association, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2022, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Funeral service begins at 2:00 PM.
