Hathon Milton “Hap” Fields, 88, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, December 26, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 29th at Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Hap was born December 6, 1926 in Independence, just yards away from his final resting place. He was one of five children to Edith (Brown) and Roscoe Connor Fields, Sr. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1943. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corp as a radio operator in the Galapagos during WWII. For 35 years he worked at Yellow Freight System driving coach buses and eventually became a manager before retirement in 1983. He is a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence. Hap enjoyed restoring Model “T” Fords, and anything to do with antique cars and trains. He is remembered as always being the entertainer, with a funny and always teasing spirit.
He leaves behind son, Jeffrey A. Fields of Oak Grove, MO; daughter Marsha Fields-Davis and husband Tom of Charlotte, NC; five grand children; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Hap was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Brown; Ann Fields; Phyllis McCaroll; and brother, Roscoe C.
