Mary “Kay” Fitzgerel, 65, of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019. A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E 39th St, Independence, MO 64055. Service will be at 10am Friday, March 1, 2019 at Oakwood Baptist Church, 7600 Lee’s Summit Rd, Kansas City, MO 64139. Burial to follow at Brooking Cemetery. Kay was born May 28, 1953 in Prescott, AR to Loyle and Mary Louise (Godwin) Ursery. After graduating from Raytown High School, Kay worked a couple odd jobs before finding her place as church secretary at Calvary Baptist Church, and teacher at Calvary Christian Academy where she worked for over 15 years. In 1975, Kay married Marvin Fitzgerel and the two had two beautiful daughters together, Angela and Allison. Kay loved being a mother and wife. She was known as a nice, kind woman who was dedicated to helping others. She was a gifted pianist and played at church. Kay enjoyed working with kids, crocheting, exhibiting her work at craft shows, traveling with her husband, her Etsy business, and teaching Sunday school. She adored her precious dog, Mya. But, the best thing to ever happen to Kay, was becoming a Nana. She shared an extra special bond with grandson, Luke. He was her world. The two were constant companions and great buddies. Kay loved spoiling him. Kay is survived by her loving husband, Marvin; daughter, Angela (Lynn) Tarvin; grandsons, Luke and Alex; sister Kathy; and nephew Charlie. She is preceded in death by both parents and her daughter, Allison. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Oakwood Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
