Janet Elaine Fletchall (Butler) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world on February 6th, 2023, at the age of 70, after a very brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Jan was born to Carl and Bernice Butler (Greathouse) on February 12th, 1952, in Independence, MO. Her younger brother, Carl Lyndon, was born just 15 months later. Jan accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 5 after her Aunt Thelma began taking Jan to Grace Church of the Nazarene. Her salvation experience is what brought her mother, and later her father, to also attend church. Always helpful, Jan was the kind of daughter who had dinner ready and waiting when her parents came home from work at the end of the day. She graduated from Fort Osage High School in Independence, MO in 1970.
In August of 1976, Jan married the love of her life, Larry Fletchall. The fact that the two were destined for one another was proven in 1992 when Larry was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease. Jan was found to be a perfect match and donated a kidney to Larry, saving his life. Larry will always consider Jan a hero and knows that a part of her continues to live on in him. Jan was a devoted mother to two daughters, Lisa and Jamie, and always provided a home that was well cared for and full of love.
Jan was a hard worker who paid close attention to detail in everything she did. She was employed by Hobart Refrigeration for 25 years until its closing and later retired from Musician’s Friend in 2018.
Jan’s love for travel took her and Larry to many memorable places around the United States during their 46 years together. Antique and flea market shopping was something they both enjoyed whether near home or while vacationing. Jan and Larry’s most memorable trip was a Hawaiian vacation in celebration of their 25th Wedding Anniversary.
Jan had many talents. She was just as skilled with a sewing machine as she was a table saw. She always seemed to be busy with a project around her home and was crafty and creative at DIYing anything she set her mind and hands to. Born into a family rich in musical talent, Jan also had the gift of a beautiful singing voice. Few got to hear it, as she was shy to perform publicly, but she often sang around the house with daughters, Lisa and Jamie, and taught Jamie to sing harmony to Lisa’s melody. Jan had a deep love for music and one of the things she most enjoyed was hearing her daughters sing. Jan loved to show her support of her daughter’s talents and attended countless performances over the years.
Christ was the center of Jan’s life. She spent many years as a member of the Nazarene church and served in several capacities during her time there. In most recent years, her love of music brought her and Larry to regularly attend First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.
Jan spent her last days surrounded by her loving and devoted husband, Larry, who cared for her every need both day and night, her daughters, Lisa and Jamie, brother and sister-in-law Carl and Sharon, as well as many other family members and friends. Jan was prepared for heaven and looked forward to again seeing her mom and dad and was anxiously awaiting the chance to finally hold her stillborn daughter, Tracy, who she had never had an opportunity to touch here on earth.
Jan was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Carl W. and Bernice Butler; Father and Mother-in Law Ansel and Lucille Fletchall; and Daughter, Tracy Denise. She leaves behind a loving husband, Larry; Daughters: Lisa Gumm of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Jamie (Robert) Malone of Blue Springs, MO; Brother Carl L. (Sharon) Butler, of Garden City, MO; Grandchildren: Jesse, Taylor, Marissa, Emma and Aidan; as well as many cherished loved ones and friends.
Services will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055, on Thursday, February 16th, 2023, with Visitation at 3pm and Funeral Services at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
