Norma Katherine Birkby Flowers, born September 24, 1926, passed from this phase of life to a life with God who is love on February 23, 2021. Norma was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert Richard Flowers, her parents Morton and Sabria Birkby, her siblings, James and his wife Louella Birkby and Frances and her husband James Rickabaugh. She leaves behind two sons, Terry Flowers and his wife Brenda and Randy and his wife Cheri Flowers. She leaves five grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren (so far). Also many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
After leaving nurses training to marry and start a family in 1946, she went back to nurses training in 1961. Since it had been so long, she had to start all over. She earned her BSN, RN and worked her entire nursing career at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital (which became the Independence Regional Health Center) retiring in 1990. Norma was a devout member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch of the Restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She taught Sunday school classes and was a regular attendee twice on Sunday and once on Wednesday evening until her health prohibited her attendance.
Norma will be laid to rest at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO. A celebration of life to honor Norma is planned for a future date to be determined.
