Jacqueline Colleen Fortney, 87, of Independence, MO, passed away October 2, 2014. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 18 from 1-2 pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Memorial Services will follow at 2 pm. Jackie was born in Macon County, MO on June 4, 1927 to Albert and Ruby Jordon Ausmus. She and her family moved to Buckner in 1961, where she worked for 23 years at Harmon Industries and was an active and beloved member of Six Mile Baptist Church. Her Lord Jesus Christ, family, and friends were the center of Jackie’s life, and her home was always open to anyone in need. Famous for cooking and entertaining, she also enjoyed quilting, collecting Carnival Glass, gardening, and traveling. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen Fortney; son, Harold; sisters Ruth Williams and Mary Robinson, and brother Bob Ausmus, most of whom spent the last months of their lives in her home where they received her love and care. Survivors include son Steve Fortney, grandson Jon Fortney, daughter-in-law, Donna Hersh, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins for whom she constantly prayed and loved with all her heart.
