Gary Lynn Foster, 60, Independence, MO passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013.

Gary was born June 28, 1952 in Kansas City, MO the son of LeRoy and Geraldine (Akers) Foster. He graduated from Lincoln High School and further continued at Rockhurst University receiving his BA in Biology. Gary worked for the Army Corp. of Engineers for over 34 years, retiring in 2010 as a natural resource specialist. He served as a Boy Scout Leader and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say with the name Warrior Protector of Earth & Water. Gary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus Member. He enjoyed gardening, watching the local sports teams and was an avid cyclist, and participated in the MS 150, twice. Gary’s great enjoyment other than his family was playing the saxophone and participating in numerous local bands.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Becky Foster of 36 years; daughter, Cherese Lynnette Jones; son, Gary Lynn Galvan Foster; grandchildren, Elijah Smith, Joshua Everett and Naomi Jackson; mother-in-law, Delores Galvan; sisters, Norma Hines and Catherine Wrice and husband Carter; brother, Carter Foster and wife Billye Jean; and additional nieces, nephews and family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Foster; sister, Philistine Jarvis and his parents.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church; 611 N. Liberty St., Independence, MO 64050. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts Troop #211, c/o St. Mary’s Church.
