Opal was born on December 31, 1917 in Syracuse, MO to John and Theresa (Kunrede) Myers. Opal, being a young widow and mother, worked extremely hard to raise her young son. She had many talents, one of which she became a baker for Stephenson Apple Orchard on 40 Hwy many years ago. In her later years she enjoyed working with the elderly and became an in-home caregiver to several people. She worked until she retired at the age of 85. Her hobbies included, but not limited to, caring for her yard and flower garden. She has done countless numbers of beautiful cross-stitch work and most family members have these masterpieces hanging in their homes. Opal was a Christian and was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Independence. She lived in Independence for over 50 years. In 2008, she moved to Nixa, MO to be closer to her son. She lived on her own until May of 2018, at which time she moved in with her son and daughter-in-law. Opal was united in marriage with Oscar Fowler on November 20, 1936 and to this union was born two children; John and Robert “Les”.
She is survived by her son Les Fowler and wife Pam of Nixa, MO; step-son Bill Gunter and wife Rosemary of Florida; six grandchildren Ben Fowler, Mathew Fowler, Tim Fowler, Justin Fowler, Melissa Johns, and Ashley Gonzalez; seven great-grandchildren; plus many nieces, nephews, and friends – all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, and her son John.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Opal’s name to Alzheimer’s Association.
