She was born in Emporia, Kansas, on January 9, 1937, to Emil and Mildred (Derbyshire) Ott. Her early years were spent on a farm near Burlington, Kansas, and later, on the family farm near Lamont, Kansas. After settling in Overland Park, Kansas, she taught first grade at Apache Elementary School for several years before the birth of her son John Fraser Jr. In addition to years as a homemaker she worked at the Overland Park Community Center's Leisure Services division. As a long-time resident of her Overland Park community, she was a devoted neighbor and friend to many.

She is survived by her son John, of Shawnee, Kansas; by brother Douglas Ott of Lone Jack, Missouri; by sister Karen Koerth of Evanston, Illinois; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
