Marion Evelyn Freeman, born Sept. 3, 1914 in St. Joseph, MO, passed away Aug. 12 2007 at Rosewood Health Center in Independence, MO. She was the second of three children born to James O. and Evelyn L. Worden. Marion and her family moved to Kansas City when she was a young girl. She graduated in 1931 from Manual High School. She worked as a bookkeeper at The Jones Store Co. and later with her husband’s insurance business.
Marion married Ralph M. Freeman in 1933. They had three children and raised the family in Independence, MO. Marion was very involved in her church and the Oriole youth group for several years. She was actively involved in the American Society of Women Accountants, acting as President in 1977. She was an accomplished musician, playing piano and organ for her church and singing in the choir. She was also a volunteer with the Independence Regional Health Center Auxiliary.
Marion is survived by a son, David R. Freeman and wife Marilyn of Lee’s Summit, MO; a daughter Sharon K. Peak of Deepwater, MO; and a daughter Lois J. Wheeler and husband Larry of Leawood, KS. She had nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Marion was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; two brothers: David and William Worden; and a grandson Thomas Clay Freeman.
A memorial service for Marion will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 at The Groves, 1515 W. White Oak, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to The Groves Community Hospice, 1500 W. Truman Rd., Independence, MO 64050
