Jenifer “Jen” Friend, 39, of Blue Springs, MO passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Parkview Community of Christ 801 SW 19th St, Blue Springs, MO, 64015.
Jen was born on May 25, 1978 in Lincoln, NE to Joseph Michael Friend, Sr. and Barbara Jean (Payne) Friend. Her father’s job allowed them to relocate to Blue Springs, MO and be closer to family. Jen graduated from Blue Springs High School and then earned her Bachelor’s in Education from Graceland University. She was currently working on her Master’s. She enjoyed shopping, going to concerts, eating out but also cooking, traveling, and visiting the beach. She really loved her cats Willow and Kia, but teaching was her passion. Jen was a special education teacher for the Grain Valley School District, at Grain Valley South Middle School. Her other passion outside of teaching was caring for her mother and brother Matthew who lived with her.
Jen will be remembered and missed dearly by her mom Barbara Friend of Blue Springs, MO; brother Michael Friend, Jr. and wife Beth of Grain Valley, MO; brother Matthew Friend of Grain Valley, MO; fiancé Matthew Queen of Irvine, CA; grandma Georgia Payne of Lincoln, NE; aunts Norrean O’Neal, Peggye Friend-Turner, and Cathy White (Robert); Uncle Danny R Gard; plus numerous cousins and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her aunt Jodie Gard, father Michael Friend, Sr., grandpa Don Payne, uncle Barry Noland and grandparents Carrol and Doris Friend.
