Kate Garland Frye, 93, passed away early April 29, 2006 after an extended illness. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64052. A service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. She was a recent resident of St. Joseph, after numerous decades as a resident of Jackson County. Kate was born April 11, 1913 in Taswell, TN., and raised in Ava, (Douglas County) MO. Kate was an accomplished cook, serving many memorable local establishments for over 40 years, including Wolfermans�, Emery Byrd Thayer, and Fred Harveys�. Kate was preceded in death by her parents, Tillman Jackson Garland and Nellie Pearson Garland; her husband, Harry "Jake� Frye; daughter, Erma Lee Guinn; son, Joseph Thompson; 7 sisters, Dorothy Letsinger, Mabel Dixon, Fannie Drake, Bonnie Drake, Imogene Hunter, Edna Connelly, Elvie Brown; and her great-grandson, Charles Grady III. She is survived by two sisters, Cloda Hendrickson, Bolivar, MO and Iris Frye, Ava, MO; and brother Howard Garland, Springfield, MO. Kate will also be missed by her family that in addition to her siblings, includes her son-in-law, Roscoe Guinn, Jr., Savannah, MO; grandson, Tim Guinn, Savannah, MO; granddaughters, Gloria Guinn, Lawrence, KS, Melissa John, Bucyrus, KS, Denise Winters, Paola, KS, Elizabeth Sullivan, Savannah, MO; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
