Edward Fugate Sr
November 4, 1932 — August 22, 2018
Edward Vernon Fugate, Sr., 85, of Blue Springs, MO passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018. A visitation will be from 6-8pm on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at East 39th Street Community of Christ 15006 E. 39th St. S., Independence, MO, 64055. A celebration of his life will take place at 10am on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the church.
Ed was born on November 4, 1932 in Santa Cruz, CA to Archie and Dorothy (Rice) Fugate. He graduated from Fresno High School in 1950 and went to work for Bank of America in Santa Cruz. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving during the Korean War. In 1956, he married Norma Bonsteel and together they raised 4 children. Ed was a minister with the Community of Christ and while in California, he ministered at numerous youth camps. He also enjoyed singing with the Bakersfield Masterworks Choral and gardening in his spare time. As the years passed by, Ed and Norma decided to move closer to their daughter in Missouri, which brought them to Blue Springs.
Ed will be remembered by his wife Norma Fugate of Blue Springs, MO; son Ed Fugate, Jr. and wife Fatima Gomez of Arcadia, CA; daughter Sandi Boyd and husband John of Blue Springs, MO; son Stephen Fugate and wife Nancy of Folsom, CA; son Rich Fugate and wife Kristina of Studio City, CA; sister Grace Andrews and husband Joe of Independence, MO; grandchildren Curtis Fugate (Jessie), Samantha Maple (Reece), Sarah Boyd, Jenna Boyd, Isaac Gomez-Fugate, Korina Gomez-Fugate, Kristy Gomez-Fugate, Dylan Fugate and Taylor Fugate plus several other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Joe and Archie Fugate.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Outreach International, One Community Hospice or the charity of your choice.
