Elmer Earl Fye, age 88, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, December 18th, 2012 at The Groves. Elmer was extraordinarily generous both in life and in death. He donated his body to research at the KU Medical Center. A Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5th, 2013 at Mission Woods Congregation, Community of Christ, 2800 NW Duncan Rd, Blue Springs
Elmer was born in El Dorado, Kansas on January 30th, 1924 to Malcolm and Ida (Hudson) Fye. He enlisted in the Marine Corps early in World War II and served in the Pacific area. Elmer trained as a Marine Paratrooper. He fought in the battles of Bougainville, Pelilu, and Okinawa Shima. He was a member of the Association of Survivors for the Marine Paratroopers of World War II. After the war, he returned home to Independence, MO and was married to Mary Lou Pratt on April 4, 1947. Elmer and Mary Lou were married for 59 years until her death in 2006. To this union were born two daughters and twin sons. Elmer retired in 1976 after 30 years of inventory control with Ford Motor Company. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints now known as Community of Christ and served for many years as a very faithful Deacon. He enjoyed building houses and volunteered at Camp Doniphan redoing cabins. In recent years, he also volunteered at the Palmer Senior Center.
Elmer is survived by his daughters, Kathryn Dexheimer and husband Greg; Myrna Tweedy; sons, Danny Fye; and Dwain Fye and wife Marilyn; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters, Vera Sellars; Bettyjo Kirk; and Martha Casey; and sister-in-law Rosalie Kramer; many nieces and nephews; and his friend Kathryn Coy. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; and three sisters, Irene Hayward, Esther Capell, and Opal Williamson.
