John Nelson Ganson, Jr., 85, Independence, MO passed away Friday, October 19, 2012.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of 63 years; children, Glen Ganson and wife Glenda, Gary Ganson and wife Michelle, Debbie Dyer and husband Grant and Gene Ganson and wife Debbie; 11 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Born January 24, 1927 the son of John Nelson and Mable (Ward) Ganson, Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, during WWII, and then spent another 16 years in he Naval Reserve from which he retired. John taught in the public school system in Bremerton, WA for 15 years before moving his family to Independence, and taught an additional 25 years in the Lee’s Summit School District before retiring. He was a member of the East Independence Congregation, of the Community of Christ, formally known as The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as pastor on two different occasions and held the Office of Evangelist. His greatest joy was serving God and his people as well as having his family around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the East Independence Congregation.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday October 23, 2012 at the East Independence Congregation, Community of Christ; 823 Elizabeth, Independence, MO.
