John M. Garber, 96, formerly of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed peacefully on Sept. 27, 2012 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, MO. Visitation will be from 1–2 pm, Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055 followed by a graveside service at 2:30 pm with Military Honors at Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the charity of your choice.
John was born March 25, 1916 in Sabetha, KS to Andrew and Anna (Hartter) Gerber. He married Billye Jean Miller on Sept. 18, 1944. He was a farmer, a truck driver and a retired Teamster. He was U.S. Army veteran of WW II where he served in the Wildcats 81st Division.
John was preceded in death by his wife Billye Jean Garber in 1984 and grandsons Jeffrey and Craig Garber. He is survived by daughter Tania Meiners, Fairbanks, AK; sons Jan Garber, Louisburg, KS; Michael Garber, Kansas City, MO; Terry Garber, Indio, CA; brothers Edward Garber and Charles Garber, both of Sabetha KS; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
