Leona F. Garland, 79, passed away on June 29, 2005 at Wilshire at Lakewood. A visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 1, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Indep., MO. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at the chapel, with burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Crossroads Hospice. Leona was born on April 15, 1926 in Eldorado Springs, MO to Henry and Mae Reeves. She was a resident of Independence, MO since 1958. Leona was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active member of the Atherton United Methodist Church. She was also a leader in the Girl Scouts and became a life member. Leona enjoyed cooking for family and her many friends, as well as gardening. She was always ready to travel with friends and family. Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Oris Garland. She is survived by her five children, Sandra Swenson, Vicki Lynne and husband Larry Purvis, David O. Garland, Dennis W. and wife Vickie Garland and John P. and wife Sarah Garland; two sisters, Violet Mast and Zelpha Anderson; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
