WALTER RAY GARRETT
Walter Ray Garrett, 79, Independence, Mo, passed away Monday, January 26, 2004, at The Groves. Services will be 10:00 am Thursday, January 29, at Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Wednesday at the Chapel. Mr. Garrett was born October 14, 1924, in Moody TX, to Walter Blair and Myrtle (Eakin) Garrett. He served in the U.S Army Air Corps during WWII. He was employed as a Flight Line Supervisor with General Dynamics, retiring after 42 years in 1988. He was an Elder in what was then called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and had served as Pastor of the Ft. Worth Branch. He was very active in his church work. He loved to camp and fish, spending time with his family. Walter is survived by his wife, Ruth (McVicker) Garrett, Independence MO; 3 children, Connie Spivey and her husband David, Blue Springs MO, Donna English and husband Paul, Independence MO, and Carol Howell and husband David, Texarkana, AR; 4 grandchildren, Keith Vanderbilt, Eric English and his wife Sarah, Jeffrey English, and Aaron Spivey; 3 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Abigail, and Olivia English; 2 sisters, Gladys Burton, Moody TX, and Irene Strader, Tyler TX; brother, James Garrett, Dallas TX; and many other loving relatives and friends.
