John Wesley Garrison, 95 of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Rehabilitation Center of Raymore. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. John was born July 20, 1919 in Independence, MO to William H. and Myrtle (Leeper) Garrison and was raised at Drumm Farm graduating from East High School in 1938. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII from 1944-45 when he was wounded. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service. He worked at Armco Steel from 1946-62 and later retired from the US Postal Service as a mail sorter, where he was awarded for his design of new techniques in mail sorting and delivery. He enjoyed bowling, traveling and fishing. He was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Independence, MO and had also served as the church treasurer. He is survived by; his wife Mavis of the home; 2 sons, Dennis Garrison and wife Linda of Buckner, MO and Steve Garrison and wife Joyce of Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Vickie Goodale and husband Gary of Leesburg, FL; a sister, Willetta Lowry of Pleasant Hill, MO; 2 step daughters, Mava M. Mullins of Lee’s Summit, MO and Denise E. Manus and husband Jerry of Independence, MO; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Myrna Garnell, 2nd wife, Clara and 3rd wife Laura, 5 brothers and a sister.
