Elsie Ruth Gasser, 79, passed away on August 3, 2020 in Independence, MO.
Ruth, as she was known, was born on August 27, 1940 in Orlando, Florida to Lee and Halcyone Mahoney. As a young girl, she grew up in the Madison, Florida area. She was raised in the Catholic faith and loved to ride horses and play with her brother and sister. She graduated from the local high school and later moved to California. She married Jim Gasser and was blessed with two sons and two daughters.
Ruth was a loving mother and devoted homemaker, who loved to entertain. Her family remembers many festive gatherings, parties, holidays, and barbecues at the Gasser home. She also supported her children as they excelled at sports, dance, and music. She was able to visit her relatives in northern California often, and she’d never pass up a chance to play a game of cards.
She and Jim retired in Nevada, then moved to Missouri to be nearer to their grandchildren. They adopted a Shih Tzu puppy named Phoebe who gave them both many years of delight before Jim passed away in 2011. She recently became a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. Ruth was outgoing, loved being around people, and had a big heart. She deeply loved her family and was loved in equal measure in return.
Survivors include her daughter Debbie McReynolds (Douglas White), Dan Gasser (Dawn), and Lisa Gasser (John Fernandez); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Patsy McCreless; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her beloved dog Phoebe.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Gasser; her son, Army veteran Oscar Murray “Buddy” McReynolds; and her brother Tommy Mahoney.
