Orma Lee Gates

Orma Lee Gates, 84 of Independence passed away Thu. Jul 5, 2007. Funeral services will be 4:30 pm, Mon. Jul. 9, 2007 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Indep. MO, with the visitation being held from 3:30 pm until service time. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Mrs. Gates was born on Mar. 18, 1923 to Fred and Opal (Hardin) Lain in Marceline, MO. She had been employed in the Advertising department at the Independence Examiner for several years. Orma was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Gates was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Gates in 2000. She is survived by two sons, Larry W. Gates and wife Vicki of Lee’s Summit, MO and Jerry L. Gates of Independence, MO. A daughter Patricia Marcum and husband Don of Livingston, TX. Two brothers, Calvin Lain of Newark, CA and Charles Hodge of Savanna, IL. One sister, Ida Bain of Kansas City, MO, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
