George Washington Lauderdale IV, beloved son, father, and friend, passed on November 28, 2023 in his hometown of Independence, Missouri. Born on August 30, 1946, George lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and a firm determination that made him an exceptional individual.
George began his career at Armco Steel and dedicated many years to the company. He was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence. Later in life, he transitioned into a position at the City of Independence where he continued to contribute to his community with the same level of dedication.
George's personality was magnetic and one-of-a-kind. He had a mischievous sense of humor and loved to tease others, bringing joy and laughter into each interaction. Loyalty ran deep within him, making him a true pillar with support for his loved ones. Opinionated yet empathetic, George had a unique way of expressing himself.
Outside of work, George found solace in pursuing his hobbies and interests. He had a green thumb like no other; growing tomatoes was his passion. Each year, he nurtured a bountiful harvest and generously shared the fruits of his labor with friends and family. One could taste the love he poured into each tomato. He also enjoyed spending time at the casino, where fate brought him to his beloved fiancé, Debi.
George's proudest accomplishment in life was his daughter, Leigh Anne. He admired her fiercely and took immense pride in her cross-country accomplishments throughout her high school career. As a father, George provided unwavering support, encouragement, and guidance, instilling within her the same determination and perseverance that defined his own character.
Surrounded by his loving family, George peacefully passed away. His legacy will forever illuminate the lives of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He leaves behind cherished memories and an indelible mark on the hearts of his loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents; George Washington Lauderdale III and Margaret Virginia Lauderdale, and his brother; Robert Steven Lauderdale. He is survived by his fiancé; Debi Wiedmaier, his daughter; Leigh Anne Taylor (Brent), and his two grandchildren; Hayden and Leighton Taylor.
Services to honor and celebrate George's life will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. The visitation is scheduled for December 3, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place the following day, Monday, December 4, 2023, at 2 PM. George will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George's honor to the American Lung Association.
