Greenwood, Missouri

Gerald Dean Sands, affectionately known as Jerry, passed away on April 23, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 85. Born on January 30, 1940, in Sedalia, Missouri, Jerry made an impact on those around him, both professionally and personally.

A dedicated barber, Jerry followed in the footsteps of many men in his family, proudly owning and operating his own barber shop. He took great pride in his craft, ensuring that each client left with not just a haircut, but also a smile. Jerry was known for his ornery personality and exceptional sense of humor. Those fortunate enough to be in his presence often found themselves the recipients of his clever tricks and jokes. The laughter he shared with friends, family, and clients alike added a lightness to everyday life. In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed indulging in his passions. He had a profound love for fishing and was often found enjoying the peaceful surroundings of nature. Classic country music filled his home, providing a soundtrack to joyful memories. His fondness for poker was well-known among his friends, where rounds of cards often turned into an evening of camaraderie and laughter. Jerry was also diligent in maintaining the appearance of his yard, taking immense pride in his outdoor space. You could often find him sitting back, watching the GRIT channel with a Diet Coke in hand during his more relaxed moments. Above all else, Jerry was a devoted husband and father. He deeply cherished his wife, known to him as “Annie,” and the family they created together. He was crowned by his children "best dad ever", nurturing and loving his family unconditionally.

Jerry will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia, Missouri, on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Jerry's passing was preceded by his beloved wife, Anna Sands; his parents, Herbert and Mary (Shull) Sands; and his siblings, Kenneth Sands, Wilma Loding (Roy), Dale Sands (Mary Ann), Don Sands, and Ralph Sands (Mildred). His legacy of love and laughter lives on through his children, Vickie Simer (Ray), Rhonda Wagner (Dave), and Kim Shaffer (Wade); his grandchildren, Josh Simer (Katie), Brittany Alcala (Michael), and Jordan Wagner; his great-granddaughter, Averie Alcala, and two more great-granddaughters, Riley Alcala and Marlee Simer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
