Gerald Eugene Shinn, known to many as "Gene," passed away on February 22, 2024, at the Cameron Regional Hospital in Cameron, Missouri. He was born on April 18, 1940, in Osceola, Iowa to Royal Clyde Shinn and Anna Gertrude (Patterson) Shinn. Gerald led a fulfilling life that touched the hearts of those around him.
Gene proudly served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. In his professional journey, Gene worked as an electrician for the Iowa Ammunitions Plant until his retirement in 1996. His dedication and expertise left a lasting impact on all who crossed paths with him during his esteemed career.
Beyond his work life, Gene was a man of simple pleasures. He found immense joy in spending quality time with his cherished family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. His modest and humble nature endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. In his free time, he indulged in his passion for working on cars, a hobby that brought him both relaxation and fulfillment.
Gene will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of over 61 years, Minnie Shinn; and daughter, Lisa Shinn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who held a special place in his heart. He is preceded in death by his father Royal Shinn; mother, Anna Shinn; brothers, Junior Shinn, Lyle Shinn, and Jerry Shinn; and sister, Roberta Howe - all whom he shared deep connections with throughout his life.
A memorial visitation to honor and celebrate Gene's life will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on February 29th at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Please join the family in reflecting on the impact he had on those around him and to pay tribute to a life well-lived.
Though Gerald may have departed from this world physically, his memory and legacy will continue to live on through all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in eternal peace.
