JAN (PORT) GETZ
Jan Getz, 80, of Independence, passed away Friday, August 2nd 2013. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th Street Independence. A private funeral service will be held at a later time. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
Jan was born December 12th 1932 in Tyrone, PA to G. Robert and Ruby E. (Fowler) Port as one of four children. She later married, had four wonderful daughters, and later raised grandson, Micheal. Jan worked as parts inspector for many years at Bendix (now Honeywell) until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed reading and embroidery with her daughters. She is described as an independent woman, who brought life and a sense of humor to any gathering, and was strong in her Christian faith. Jan is remembered for her love and her bravery. She will be greatly missed by all.
Jan is survived by daughters, Debra K. “Debbie” Cutts (Richard) of Georgetown, TX; Rosanna Baker of Independence, MO; Cynthia Bolin (James S. Engman) of Independence, KS; grandchildren, Rhonda Maydwell, Christie Laster, Ricky Cain, Lori Broderick, Daniel Bolin, and Andrew Engman; nine great grandchildren; sister, Thelma Snyder; and brother, George Robert “June” Port. She was preceded in death by brother, Lee Port; and beloved daughter, Sondra Lynn Getz. The family encourages contributions to American Cancer Society in her memory.
