Leonard John Giaramita, 79, passed away into the arms of God on September 1, 2021 in Independence, Missouri.
Leonard was born on October 12, 1941 in Kansas City, MO to Lucille Maddi Giaramita and Anthony Giaramita.
He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Independence and a was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Independence.
Leonard was a bricklayer in the Kansas City area for over 60 years and was a Life Member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers – Local # 15 – Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
Leonard took pride in his work as a bricklayer and left a lasting legacy of craftsmanship in the many buildings he helped to construct.
He was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan and also loved to play golf, especially with his son Anthony, with whom he shared his love of sports.
He also loved watching the Western channels and was a fan the “Duke”, John Wayne.
He met and fell in love with Carolyn Dannaldson in 1970. He proposed to her at Christmas and they were married on June 19, 1971.
Leonard will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father, and loyal friend, who never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Marie Rappa.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn, his son Anthony and wife Tina; his three grandchildren, Matt Langehennig of Lovington, NM, Stefani Langehennig and wife Nellie Ruedig of Denver, CO and Michelle Cook and husband Yuri of Allen, TX; and one great grandson, Noah Soto of Allen, TX.
Leonard is also survived by nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
The family wishes to extend their profound 'Thank You' for all the kindness, love and prayers shown to them during this difficult time.
We also would like to especially thank Rachel Brown for her wonderful compassion, friendship and nursing expertise. You are a true angel and hero in our eyes.
We also wish to thank Crossroads Hospice for their compassion and kindness in their care of Leonard.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm with a Memorial Service of Remembrance following at 7:00 pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel on 39th Street in Independence.
Cremations services were under the direction of Reflections.
