Jeneva W. (Hix) Gibson, 91, of Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at First Christian Church of Independence, 125 S. Pleasant St., Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, or the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund c/o American Business Women’s Assoc., 9100 Ward Pkwy, Kansas City, MO 64114. Burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Jeneva was born May 15, 1921, in Cotter, AR, to Joshua and Bessie (Holladay) Hix. She attended school in Crane, MO, and Nevada, MO, before moving to the Kansas City area. Mrs. Gibson retired from the Federal Mogul Corp. in 1986. She was a faithful and active member of the church and was a former elder and president of the board of directors in 2000. Jeneva was also a long-time member of the American Business Women’s Association and served as national secretary-treasurer in 1972. For many years, she was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. Jeneva is survived by her sons, Richard Gibson and Phillip Gibson and wife Jill; two grandsons, Charles Gibson and Matthew Penprase and one granddaughter Lacey Stecker and husband Riley; great-grandson Oliver Stecker; niece Norma Rae Block; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
