Wanda Gibson, 87, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018. A visitation will be held 10-11am on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church 10017 E. 36th Terr, Independence, MO, 64052. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am. Entombment will take place at Mount Olivet Mausoleum.
Wanda was born on March 3, 1931 in Stone County, MO to George and Audie (O’Neal) Yocum. Living through The Great Depression gave her strong values and a beautiful soul. She believed you should be kind to everyone you meet; there was something good in every person. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. In her spare time Wanda loved to read, go for walks, cook, and garden. She was an active member at Nativity of Mary, volunteered there and was a member of the Altar Society in her younger years. No matter what life threw at Wanda she stayed strong, positive, and at peace.
Her light will shine on in the lives of her children Pamela Gibson-Eighmey and husband Gregory of Independence, MO, James Gibson and wife Susan of Kansas City, MO, and Daniel Gibson of Olathe, KS; sister Bonnie Shaw; 8 grandchildren Dane Eighmey (Stacie), Devin Eighmey (Carrie), Matthew Gibson, Mary Gibson, Dalton Eighmey, Jonathan Gibson, Katherine Gibson, and Sara Gibson; 3 great-grandchildren Weston, Finton, and Huxton.
She was preceded in death by her sister Georgia Yocum, brother Martin Yocum, her parents, and her husband of over 50 years Raymond Gibson.
