Jack Gilliland, 77, of Blue Springs, MO passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at his home. A memorial visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055.
Jack was born on May 29, 1940 in Lawrence, KS. On June 10, 1962 he married Penny Cline. For 40 years he was a P.E. Teacher for the Kansas City, MO School District until his retirement. Jack never slowed down; he did lawn care and moved pianos as a side job. He attended local high school sporting events, was a member of the Blue Springs Parks & Rec. Board, founded the Garden Club at James Walker Elementary, and was a Jackson County Election Judge. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and visiting with people at local coffee shops but most of all he loved his grandkids.
Jack will be remembered by his wife of 55 years Penny Gilliland of Blue Springs, MO; son Dan Gilliland and wife Tammy of Independence, MO; daughter Tammy Reed and husband Kevin of Blue Springs, MO; brother Keith Gilliland and wife Sandy of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren Makenzie Tetlow (Teddy), Amber Gilliland, Chance Reed, Joshua Gilliland, and Benjanmin Gilliland; and great-grandchildren Mariah and Kennedy Tetlow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Jacob Gilliland.
