Gerald D. Gillmore, 55, Kansas City, MO passed away unexpectedly March 23, 2014. A memorial service will begin at 6:00 pm, Sunday, March 30 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will begin at 5 pm before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Niles Prep School, 1911 E. 23rd St., K.C., MO 64127. Gerald was born Feb. 18, 1959 in Independence. He earned his Masters in Education from Graceland University. He was a special education teacher at Niles Prep School and had previously taught at Raytown South Middle School and the Rainbow Center in Blue Springs. He also was a private tutor. He loved animals. He was dedicated to working with children. Most of all he loved his family. Gerald was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Mae Kantman. He is survived by daughter Amanda Gillmore and her fiancée Charlie Rohaus; grandson Joseph Marquess, all of Independence, MO; his partner of twenty-eight years Richard Moreno, of the home; ex-wife Elaine Katamura, Independence, MO; sisters Doris Millman and husband Henry, Bronaugh, MO; Cheryle Kantman; Debbie Mosier, both of Independence, MO; and brother Victor Detel, Blue Springs, MO.
