Gladys Arlene Todd, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on July 9, 2024. She was 93 years old. Gladys leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Born on October 17, 1930, in Harrisonville, Missouri, Gladys spent much of her early life working on farms, tending to house chores, and watching the children. After moving to Independence, she began her work in the food industry. Her journey began at Dunkin' Donuts, where she honed her skills before eventually assuming the role of night manager at Dairy Queen. Gladys was renowned for her exceptional baking abilities. Her homemade cinnamon rolls, oatmeal cookies, and sugar cookies were beloved by many. She took great joy in hosting family gatherings every Sunday evening, following leisurely days spent at her brother’s farm. Described as a natural leader with a nurturing spirit, Gladys was always ready to take charge and offer unwavering support to those around her. Her dedication to her loved ones knew no bounds, and she took immense pride in being both a mother and a grandmother. In her leisure time, Gladys found solace in reading Harlequin romance novels and watching the timeless series Perry Mason. Her love for music shone through in her enjoyment of classic records by artists such as Hank Williams and Kenny Rogers. Gladys Arlene Todd's kindness and warmth touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Gladys' passing was preceded by her parents; Granville and Alta Louise (Beatty) Gorsage, her beloved husband; Walter Todd Jr., her son; Stephen Michael Todd, her grandson; Brandon Lee Todd, her siblings; Calvin L. Gorsage, Walter Lee Gorsage, Jesse Ray Gorsage, Francis Marie (Gorsage) Peterson, and Carolyn Elizabeth (Gorsage) Sidebottom, her daughter-in-law; Betty Virginia Todd, and her son-in-law; Rickey Parker. Her legacy lives on through her children; Leonard R. Todd, Walter Ray Todd, Janet Kay Gipson, Jack Edward Todd, Deborah Parker Shore, and Christopher David Todd, her sister; Betty Kathryn (Gorsage) Drehle, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Gladys's life will be held on July 20, 2024. The service will take place at Carson-Speaks Chapel (located at 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052) at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will immediately follow at Mt.Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, St. Jude's, or Sarah Cannon Institute.
