Glenn Eugene Henry

July 2, 1939 — October 3, 2024

Buckner

Glenn Eugene Henry, lovingly known as Skip, passed away in his home in Buckner Missouri, on October 3, 2024, leaving behind a legacy rich in love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on July 2, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, he filled the lives of his family and friends with warmth, creativity, and a spirit of adventure.

Skip dedicated his career to helping others as an optician, a role he embraced until his retirement in 2001. Beyond his professional commitments, Skip found joy in a life well-lived, marked by profound connections with his children and grandchildren. He was a playful spirit, forever eager to distribute candy at Halloween, his laughter mingling with the squeals of excited children. Every Fourth of July was adorned with celebrations, the vibrant colors of fireworks a mere reflection of his spirited soul.

A proud veteran, Skip served in the National Guard and had a passion for World War II history. He was a man of many interests, delighting in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was feeding the hummingbirds that flew into his yard, indulging in the pages of a good book, or getting lost in the melodies of radio shows and music. His kitchen was a sanctuary, where cooking and baking became acts of love, enveloping his family in the warmth of his culinary delights. He also showed prowess in bowling and archery, pursuits that showcased his spirited competitiveness and camaraderie.

Skip’s creativity flowed through the pages of two children's books he authored: “The Christmas Owl” and “The Witch that Fell from the Sky.” Through these stories, he nurtured the imagination of young readers, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Cathie Echols (Harold) and Pattie Proctor (Eric), as well as grandchildren—Caitlin Echols, Collin Echols, Abigail Echols, Dustin Proctor, Dylan Proctor (Cheyenne), Brittany Proctor (Mike), Bethany Denham (Jake), Dakota Proctor, Dalton Proctor, and Bailey Proctor—each of whom carry forward pieces of his laughter and love. He also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren and his brother, Del Henry.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris (Anderson) Henry, and his sister, Peggy Goldsberry. They welcomed him with open arms, rejoicing in his return to their loving embrace.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance at Oakland United Methodist Church in Buckner, Missouri, on October 11, 2024. Visitation will commence at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Skip will find his final rest at Oakland Cemetery, with interment following the service.
