Charles Lee "Bill" Goins

Charles “Bill” Lee Goins, 91, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Funeral visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019 with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Carson-Speaks Funeral Home at 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. Interment will be immediately after the service at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Bill was born October 25, 1927 in Laredo, MO to parents Charles Henry Goins and Katie May Dudley. He met the love of his life, Ruby, in Kansas City and he and Ruby were married May 11, 1948. Bill worked 42 years for Superior Roller Co./MARCO (Mid-American Roller Co.) in Kansas City, MO.

Bill enjoyed coaching youth baseball and was named “Coach of the year” in 1964 when his Queen City Bantam team won the league championship. In recent years Bill has enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports ranging from baseball, basketball, dance, hockey, soccer, softball, swimming and track to name a few. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson Jake play baseball and was just beginning to get into watching his great-grandson Colton begin his baseball experience.

His favorite recreation was traveling the open road with Ruby and three generations of family members as well as their lifelong friends, Bill and Nita Leighty. Among his favorite destinations were Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Bill’s other interests included playing competitive softball in his adult youth, square dancing , listening to country music, fishing with his best friend Charlie and bowling as well as being a vocal spectator when watching the KC Royals and Chiefs along with MU Football. He was committed to supporting MU sports, especially football.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Katie, his brother, James Goins, sisters Emma Goins, Edith Biesecker, Lucy Goins and Jackie Ruberson. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruby Goins, his children, Billy Joe (Annette) Goins of Cedar Hill, TX, Jim (Sandy) Goins of Independence, MO, Rich (Kelly) Goins of Lee’s Summit, MO, Sue (Brent) McMilian of Wheatland, MO along with six grandchildren, Rebecca (Brian) Arnold of Kansas City, MO, Angela Goins (Jerry Gullion) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jake Goins of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jordan Goins of Lee’s Summit, MO, Christa McMilian of Kansas City, MO and Kelli (Kacey) Godwin of Blue Springs, MO, and four great grandchildren, Alexandra Arnold, Caitlyn Arnold, Colton Goins and Jonas Goins-Coleman.
Bill had unique and special nicknames for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He lived a long, full life surrounded by family and friends. He was a very proud family Patriarch that was respected and loved by all!
