James Gorbet Sr

Jim Gorbet, 71, of Independence, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Centerpoint Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM., Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty St., Independence, MO 64050, with burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM., on Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to American Lung Cancer Society or St. Mary’s Alter Rosary Society. He was born on June 1, 1942, in Kansas City, the son of Frank and Mildred (Parker) Gorbet.
Jim loved spending time with his family and was very devoted in making it to every grandchild’s sporting events. He enjoyed fishing and watching sports from Royals baseball, Chiefs football and anything Mizzou.
He is survived by the love of his life of 47 years, Brodie Gorbet, of the home; two sons Joey Gorbet and wife Daniele, and David Gorbet, both of Independence; nine grandchildren, Kelsey, Courtney, Zachary, Kamara, Kylee, Marli Gorbet; three step grandchildren, Alex, Jake and Tristan; one brother Roger Gorbet, Kansas City; and one sister Patricia Gorbet, Indpendence; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Charles Gorbet.
